Assembly A small diesel-engine assembly line

Verifying engine assembly and recording the hands that do it

Cameras check each assembly step at the station, and the best assembler's work becomes the training clips for new ones.

The knowledge at risk

It lives in the head of the senior assembler.

He knows the order that avoids a pinched gasket and the feel of a correctly seated bearing. New assemblers take months to pick it up by watching him.

Shop-floor constraints

  • Assemblers must keep both hands free.
  • Capture must not slow the line.
  • Consent and privacy for head-mounted recording.

What we build

  1. 01

    Define the steps

The station's sequence is written with the senior assembler, step by step.

  2. 02

    Verify each step

A fixed camera checks parts present and order. A missed step lights the andon.

  3. 03

    Capture the demonstration

A head-mounted camera records the expert's hands, synced to the fixed view and torque events.

  4. 04

    Label from the process

Step boundaries come from the verification model, so every clip is labelled as it is recorded.

Today: what it improves

  • Missed steps caught at the station.
  • A per-engine record of what was done, in what order.
  • Training clips for new assemblers from the best one.

Over time: how it learns

A step-by-step record of how your best assembler builds an engine.

  • D1Egocentric video of the expert's hands
  • D2Fixed-camera view of the same action
  • D3Step labels and boundaries from the verification model
  • D4Torque-tool events and engine serial

Recorded on site and owned by the plant. The system uses it to keep learning your floor.

What we will measure

  • Fewer assembly faults at the test bench.

PILOT MEASUREMENT REQUIRED: bench failures traced to assembly, before and after.

  • Verification keeps up with the line.

PILOT MEASUREMENT REQUIRED: added seconds per station.

  • A training library for new assemblers builds up.

PILOT MEASUREMENT REQUIRED: hours of step-labelled clips.
